Building Project

Multi-Use Training Facility Building Project

Project Purpose

The need for members of the Graham County Search and Rescue team to be mission-ready is imperative. Our team knows that at any hour, in any weather and in any terrain, our services can be dispatched. Whether it’s a lost child, vulnerable adult, stranded or injured person, or a recovery mission, we will respond. Continued training is crucial to what we do.

Throughout 2020 and 2021, during the height of the Covid Pandemic, members of the Graham County Search and Rescue Organization realized the need for a larger, indoor training area. With already limited space to train within our building, members were attempting to distance 10 feet from one another. This proved difficult with the added gear necessary for training. With no alternative indoor training facilities in Graham County, the need and aspiration for such a facility became our focus and goal.It is our goal to achieve an indoor training facility not only for our members, but for all our area partners in Law Enforcement, Firefighters and EMS personnel. Our plan is to add a 50 X 100 enclosed building to our existing building. This addition will be multi-use by adding 5 12 X 14 bay doors to house our response vehicles to protect them from the elements. The total cost of this addition was $425,000.00, but with the financial assistance offered by the Graham County Board of Supervisors, our cost is now $382,500.00

To accomplish our goal, we are requesting donations through a process of Grants and in-kind donations. Local engineer Lupe Munoz has joined us in making this beneficial project goal become a reality. Additionally, numerous other entities and businesses have been approached and have agreed to support this worthy and much-needed Multi-Agency Training Facility project.

Project Fiscal Status

The Graham County Search and Rescue is a 501(C)(3) organization. Likewise, each donation we receive is greatly appreciated. Such donations provide the gear and equipment necessary for ongoing training and our search, rescue, and recovery missions.

In our goal to see this Multi-Use Training Facility project become a reality, we have reached out to numerous businesses and organizations regarding our intentions. Thus far, our goal and vision have been well received.

In March of 2023, we met with United Way of Graham and Greenlee County. Our plans for such a facility in Graham County were met with interest and enthusiasm. United Way has given hope of matching our donations up to

$200,000.00. We will be submitting a proposal to United way in September 2023. In April, we met with the Graham Board of Supervisors who obligated a 10% donation toward this training facility, reducing the cost from $425,000.00 to $382,500.00. Our Engineer, Lupe Munoz has greatly reduced the cost of his services to see this project through.

Our existing building is owned by Graham County. The county dedicated this building to Search and Rescue. Currently, work is being scheduled to relocate existing utility lines and pipes around the existing building to make way for the new addition. Graham County will continue to maintain the existing facility and will take on maintenance of the proposed addition.

This project has the support and dedication of each Search and Rescue member. Our team is excited at the prospect of providing this Multi-Use Training Facility to our partners in Law Enforcement, EMS and Fire. We, along with our partners, understand the importance of high-quality, up-to-date training. It is through continual training that we are able to provide our community the excellent service they deserve.
